Okay, so this thing was an experiment on learning how to use Manga Studio Debut 4, since my husband got it for me for Christmas last year and I had yet to touch it. The final verdict? Meh.

The interface is cluttered, restrictive, and not very intuitive to use. You seem to be limited to a lot of presets (I’m going to see what new type faces and word bubbles I can possibly download from elsewhere later, which will hopefully help with that) and for some reason it does not appear very responsive to my tablet’s pressure sensitivity. On top of that, the stabilizer alters the line after you lift the stylus rather than doing it as you make the stroke. Very annoying.

All in all, the ability to choose from preset panels or create your own, as well as quickly adding speech bubbles and effects are probably the best things this program has going for it, but I would recommend doing the majority of the artistic side of the process in whatever art program you’re most comfortable with first before importing the image file and finishing the product up.
